Come relax and have some fun! Join us at Well-Sweep
Herb Farm in a presentation of informative lectures or courses where
you learn to create, step by step, your own lovely handcrafted decorations
or projects. Class prices include everything you’ll need to complete
the project, and no prior experience is necessary. Many of the courses
are hands-on; please dress accordingly. Please note: Reservations are
required for all classes. January 19, Saturday,
10:30 to 11:30 & February 16, Saturday,
10:00 to 12:00       Create your own hypertufa trough with that Old English look. We will combine cement with other ingredients so wear old clothes, bring rubber gloves and a face mask, and come have some fun. You will need to leave your garden trough with us to dry for a few days. Reservations required. $44.00. April 5, Saturday, 1:30 to 3:30       Topiary art-forms have long been an intriguing point of interest in herb gardens and homes everywhere. The design and sculpture of herbs into the creation of living art will highlight this entertaining and informative presentation. All aspects of topiary will be presented, including selection, support, care, pruning and maintenance. You will take home your own topiary start after planting and trimming it. No prior experience is necessary. Reservations required. $32.00. April 12, Saturday, 10:00 - 12:00       A spring project for lasting enjoyment. Come create a rustic container using grapevine, moss and soil. This outdoor circular piece, about 14", will then be planted with a selection of five fresh herbs. Bring gloves and clippers. Reservations required. $34.00. April 19, Sat., 11.00 - 12:00       Come listen to noted speaker and passionate fern lover - John Demarrais as he extols their virtues. President of the Delaware Wildlife and Fern Society, John's presentation will cover shade gardening with ferns as well as good companion plants. Reservations required. $9.00. May 16, Friday, 6:30 - 9:00      
David Winston, renowned herbalist
and ethnobotanist, will present an educational walk to locate and identify
common medicinal herbs in their native habitat. Learn about the healing
properties of nature’s pharmacy, perhaps just beyond your own
doorstep. Following the walk, David will share a Cherokee Indian story
as we gather around a campfire. June 7, Saturday, 10:00 - 5:00

gardens. June 28, Saturday, 11:00 to 2:00       Well-Sweep’s 19th annual Midsummer Herb Festival celebrates ‘Calendula - Calendula officinalis’, the 2008 Herb of the Year. Enjoy a tasty luncheon prepared with this featured herb and many others. Come learn more about the many virtues of these popular plants. A lecture-tour through the garden will also be part of the day’s activities. Reservations required. $30.00. July 12, Saturday, 1:30 to 3:30       With lavender in full bloom, come and create two beautiful scented projects from this delightful flowering herb. You will make a fresh lavender, braided heart-shaped decoration and a tussy mussy, to take home. A lecture and tour will be part of this program. Enjoy a relaxing summer afternoon working with one of our favorites. Refreshments will be served. Reservations required. $30.00. August 2, Saturday, 12:00 to 2:30       Victorian lady, Lisa Lewis, will delight you with her authentic period wardrobe. Etiquette, values, and the life-style of this era will also be presented. A savory summer lunch will be served. Reservations required. $36.00. August 13, Wednesday, 1:30 - 3:30       Spend a relaxing afternoon creating decorative aromatic wreaths. In this class we will make two oils, three vinegars and a pesto to take home. Light refreshments will be served. Learn about growing and harvesting plants for teas and their distinct culinary attributes. Enjoy sampling various herb tea blends, then blend your own. You will take home two pint jars of tea. Refreshments will be served. Reservations required. $30.00. September 27, Saturday, 1:00 to 3:00       Learn how to make all natural, homemade soap. Various methods and ingredients will be covered. These contrasting greens make an attractive display. Add decorative pine cones and a colorful bow if you wish. Please bring gloves and pruning shears. December 1, Monday, 7:00 - 9:00       See November 20th for description. December 2, Tuesday, 7:00 - 9:00       Attractive three-dimensional stars made of vine will provide a base to be used for this project. This base can be painted or used naturally, then decorated with dried flowers, pods, and a festive ribbon. You will take home a 6" and a 12" star. A great gift idea for anytime of the year! 7:00 - 9:00       Create a festive tree with fresh boxwood and assorted winter greens: then decorate with pine cones, everlastings, fruit and ribbon. A wonderful project that will last for months. Get in the holiday spirit by creating your own gingerbread house. Using real gingerbread, gum drops, kisses, red-hots, cereal, marshmallows and other treats, you will build your very own masterpiece. January 10, Saturday, 1:00 to 2:00       Dispel the winter doldrums by joining Cyrus Hyde for an informative lecture-tour of his collection of herbs from around the world. This is a wonderful way to learn about rare and unusual, as well as familiar herbs. Reservations required. Free. January 19, Monday, 7:00 - 9:00       Using a wide selection of dried flowers, artemisia, salal leaves, and a 14" grapevine base, create a spectacular decorative piece for your home. This colorful wreath is sure to be enjoyed all year-round. Color schemed to your preference. Farm lecture
tours are available for groups of 12 or more. Tour our impressive culinary,
medicinal, and formal herb gardens, and visit the gift shop and farm
animals. Lecture topics include the history, uses, and cultivation of
herbs, as well as herbal recipe suggestions. Tours may be tailored to
meet your group’s specific interests or chosen topics.
